Fitness

Being physically fit is incredibly important to me, especially as I age. In my-mid-fifties I was inspired to get serious…again, about fitness. In my twenties and thirties, I worked out for mostly vanity and because I love to eat. Now at the mid-point of my life, I am motivated by maintaining muscle mass and bone density for health reasons, and because I have been plagued by injuries throughout my life.

Watching the transformation in my physique over the last 3 years has been remarkable, encouraging me to continue this routine for the rest of my life. I have a trainer 3-4 times per week and we dedicate that time to weight lifting. I also do a very small amount of cardio a few times per week, normally swimming or walking, plus I will use a vibration plate for lymph drainage and muscle tone.

Sometimes I will throw in Pilates or yoga. I like to mix up my fitness time when I am not with my trainer, Jonathan McConnell @endgainsfitness. On dedicated days in the gym, Jonathan uses a “50 Rep Method” most of the time, and he is continually changing my routine to achieve the most optimal results for me. We are working on an app for people over 50 to maintain muscle tone, balance, gait stability and longevity. Even my mother, Dee Simmons works out with Jonathan and she is almost 85! I will keep you posted on the app. Keep following me for my fitness routines on Instagram. Who knows? You might just learn a new exercise or technique!
